The Golden Rule: Layer, Don’t Lug

Munnar’s weather swings through the day — 5°C nights, 20°C afternoons, sudden showers. Instead of one heavy jacket, pack 3–4 thin layers you can add or remove. Temperature layering beats packing a suitcase of winter clothes.

What the Camp Already Provides

Organised glamp packages include the tent/pod, bedding (in glamping tiers), power, hot water and meals. You do NOT need sleeping bags, cookware or torches for most organised stays — check your package, then leave the heavy kit at home.

Winter Packing List (Dec–Feb)

Base layer, fleece, windproof shell, warm socks, a beanie and light gloves for pre-dawn treks. Nights at 5–8°C are the real test — the mornings you spend on Kolukkumalai or Meesapulimala are colder than the campsite.

  • Base layer + fleece + windproof shell
  • Beanie, light gloves, warm socks
  • Headlamp for pre-dawn trek starts
  • 1.5–2L water bottle per trek

Monsoon & Summer Adjustments

Monsoon (Jun–Aug): quick-dry clothing, a rain shell with hood, waterproof phone pouch, and gaiters if you trek. Summer (Mar–May): light trek wear, sun protection, and do treks before 9 AM. In every season: power bank, personal toiletries, and a small daypack — not a trolley.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a sleeping bag for camping in Munnar?

No — organised glamping and tent-stay packages provide bedding. Only DIY camping requires your own sleeping kit.

What clothes should I pack for Munnar in December?

Layers: base layer, fleece, windproof shell, warm socks, beanie and gloves — nights drop to 5–8°C.

What’s the one thing people forget for Munnar camping?

A headlamp and a power bank — pre-dawn treks start in the dark and cold drains phone batteries fast.
